Board of Directors and Executive Board
It is the responsibility of Jalles Machado’s Board of Directors to define the Company’s general policies and guidelines, assessing plans and projects proposed by the Executive Board, in addition to the results of each period.
Graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Bernardes served as CEO of Bunge International (from 1996 to 1999), before joining the Bunge Group, he was a Senior Partner at Booz-Allen & Hamilton. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Alpargatas S.A., Delphi Corporation (United States) and Johnson Electric. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Localiza Rent a Car S.A., serves as: Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Member of the Strategy Committees of Marcopolo S.A,; Member of the Advisory Board of the company Davos; Member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Cia Suzano Papel e Celulose; Member of the Compensation and People Development Committees and Finance Committee of Praxair Inc. (United States); Senior Consultant to the CEO of Johnson Electric Holdings Limited; Member of the Board of Directors of VPar – Votorantim Participações; Member of the Advisory Board of Amyris (United States); Member of the OMNI Board of Directors; Vice-Chairman of the Board and Coordinator of the DASA Human Resources Committee; Chairman of the Strategy Committee of Vanguarda S.A .; Member of the Board of Directors of Gerdau S.A. and Metalúrgica Gerdau.
Graduated in Agronomic Engineering from ESALQ University of São Paulo – USP and PhD in Applied Economics from ESALQ / USP (1999). Mr. Mendonça de Barros has been a professor in the Department of Economics, Administration and Sociology at ESALQ / USP, in the areas of Macroeconomics, Economic Development and Agricultural Economics, since 1995. He is Professor of Agricultural Economics at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, since 2005 and member of the Board of Directors of Fosfértil, Schoenmaker / Terra Viva Group and Otávio Lage Group. Member of the External Advisory Committee of EMBRAPA Pecuária Sudeste and the Agribusiness Council of FIESP. He is a Partner-Consultant at MB Agro and Ruralcon Advice on Agricultural Management.
Graduated in business administration, Mr. Nastari holds a M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University. For 22 years was professor of Economics at FGV – Fundação Getulio Vargas, in São Paulo. With extensive experience in negotiations and trade disputes at the ITC (International Trade Commission) and the World Trade Organization, Dr. Nastari served as the Chief Economist for the Brazilian government in trade disputes involving ethanol exports to the United States, sugar exports from European Union, common regime for importing bananas into the European Union, and Brazilian regime for the import of used and retreaded tires. Dr. Nastari is a member of the World Sugar Committee at the ICE Futures (Intercontinental Exchange) in New York, where recommendations are made for improvements in contract rules and other matters related to the world sugar trade.
He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and Business Administration. He was the CEO of Jalles Machado between 1981 and 2000 and has held the position since 2009. He was the Chair of the Decision-Making Board of the Ethanol Manufacturing Industry Union of the State of Goiás (Sindicato da Indústria de Fabricação de Etanol do Estado de Goiás – Sifaeg) from 2014 to 2017. He served as a Director of the Federation of Industries of the State of Goiás (Federação das Indústrias do Estado de Goiás – Fieg), a member of the Board of Directors of the Abrinq Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of the Sugarcane Technology Center (Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira – CTC) and the Chair of the Association for the Industrial Development of the State of Goiás (Associação Pró-Desenvolvimento Industrial do Estado de Goiás – ADIAL). He was mayor of Goianésia for two consecutive terms, between 2001 and 2008.
Graduated in Psychology at the Catholic University of Goiás, Silvia Siqueira is vice-president of the Board of Directors of Grupo Otávio Lage; member of the Board of Directors of Jalles Machado; member of the Deliberative Council of Fundação Jalles Machado; partner of LS Agropecuária. Worked as a Psychologist at Clínica Santa Mônica in Goiânia – GO and was CEO of the Alphaville Association from 2014 to 2015, member of the Deliberative Council from 2016 to 2018 and Financial Director from 2018 to 2019. Was a partner at Centro de Psicologia da Pessoa from 1981 to 1989.
Civil Engineer, graduated from the Polytechnic School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro – PUC in 1961, with a parallel degree in Production Engineering. As a university student he was an intern at Companhia Esso de Petróleo do Brasil. Civil engineer at Construtora Chicago Bridght in the construction and installation of Auto Forno Siderurgico by Mannesmann in the city of Belo Horizonte from 1961 to 1962. Engineer at Construtora Concisa in the city of São Paulo in the years 1963 to 1967. Partner, founder and engineer responsible for Construtora Morais Ferrari since 1967. Entrepreneur in the Real Estate Development, Sugarcane and Agriculture sectors since the 1970s. He collaborated with the team of professors at Universidade do Mackenzie in São Paulo in implementing the University of Engineering of Barretos – FEB, today University of Barretos. Partner, founder and Director of Jalles Machado since its foundation. Since the beginning of Otávio Lage Group in the sugacane, it has implanted in the region of Goianésia GO, the first experiment of sugarcane irrigation. Mr. Moraes implemented the technique for irrigation control by hydraulic tensiometry in the culture of rubber trees, today, even used in the culture of sugarcane.
Mr. Kanjo has been the Executive Director of Gissara Agropecuária Ltda for 30 years. He is a director and vice president of Coopercred – Cooperativa de Crédito do Vale São Patrício and an effective member of Jalles Machado.
Executive Board
The Executive Board is responsible for the preparation of plans and projects and the operational and financial performance of Jalles Machado, in addition to the execution of the strategies designed by the Board of Directors.
He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and Business Administration. He was the CEO of Jalles Machado between 1981 and 2000 and has held the position since 2009. He was the Chair of the Decision-Making Board of the Ethanol Manufacturing Industry Union of the State of Goiás (Sindicato da Indústria de Fabricação de Etanol do Estado de Goiás – Sifaeg) from 2014 to 2017. He worked in the Treasury department of Banco CCF Brasil S.A. and the consulting and management company Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Association of Beef Exporters (Federação das Indústrias do Estado de Goiás – FIEG), Vice-Chair of the National Association of Confinement Companies (Associação Nacional dos Confinadores – Assocon), Vice-Chief Financial Officer of the Association for the Industrial Development of the State of Goiás (Associação Pró-Desenvolvimento Industrial do Estado de Goiás – ADIAL) and Advisor of Phibro Animal Health Corporation, a U.S. animal nutrition multinational. He has worked at the Otávio Lage Group since 2001. He was a Superintendent Director at Goiás Carne S.A., a meatpacking plant sold to Independência Alimentos S.A. in 2007, and currently works as an Executive Officer at Vera Cruz Agropecuária Ltda. and Planagri S.A. and Chief Financial Officer of Jalles Machado S.A. He is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Vale São Patrício Credit Cooperative (Cooperativa de Crédito do Vale São Patrício – Coopercred) and the Decision-making Board of the Association of Natural Rubber Producers of Goiás and Tocantins (Associação dos Produtores de Borracha Natural de Goiás e Tocantins – APROB-GO/TO).
He holds a degree in Production Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCAR), completed a full-time MBA from the Fuqua School of Business (Duke University) and has held the position of Chief Commercial Officer since 2013. He was the Chief Operating Officer of Jalles Machado between 2006 and 2011, worked at Banco Itaú, where he participated in the Trainee program, for three years, and also worked for the U.S. consulting firm AT Kearney. He was a member of the Board of Directors of CTC in 2009 and 2010.
He is an executive with over 30 years’ experience in the Sugar and Energy sector. He holds a specialization degree in Financial Management from FGV; an MBA in Strategic Agribusiness Management, with an international module from the University of California; an MBA in Project Management from FGV; and degrees in Accounting and Business Management from Unitoledo (SP). He has held the positions of General Manager and Regional Director at the João Lyra Group (AL/MG), and Executive Officer and CEO at Unialco (SP). He has been the Chief Operating Officer of Jalles Machado since July 2011.
