Corporate Profileimage

Jalles is a company with differentiated returns, diversified in the production of sugar and alcohol, energy cogeneration, cleaners and yeast. In the agricultural area, we are obsessed with the constant search for high productivity and cost reduction, achieved with 100% own sugar cane, intensive use of machinery, irrigation and own varieties for the climatic conditions of the region. On the product side, the Company seeks to differentiate itself with a mix of higher value-added products.

The sugar, produced under the Itajá brand, serves national consumers with white sugar and organic, being this latter also exported to more than 20 countries. The two products have important margin differentials compared to VHP sugar and comply with the most diverse certifications, which allow the Company to operate in different segments in the local and international market.

Jalles is one of the largest producers and exporters in the world of organic sugar. The white sugar from the Itajá brand was pointed out by the renowned SuperVarejo magazine as the second most sold sugar in the Center-West, North and Northeast regions, being the fifth in Brazil.

Sectors of Activity

Sugar

Commercialized under the Itajá brand, the white sugar produced by Jalles is constantly being improved and meets international quality standards. Every step of the production process, from planting the cane to packaging, is accompanied by highly trained and qualified professionals.

In line with the continuous improvement of its margins, Jalles also produces organic sugar, a high value-added product.

A great differentiator of Jalles, the product imposes several barriers to entry of new competitors, requiring extensive technical knowledge, from soil preparation to commercialization.

Produced according to the philosophy of natural feeding, the Itajá organic sugar complies with strict international quality certification standards, from planting to the final product.

Primarily destined for the external market, the Itajá Organic Sugar has conquered the international market, being certified by the Biodinamic Institute – IBD, which advocates production allied to environmental preservation and social responsibility.

Ethanol

The production of ethanol, a renewable energy that does not pollute the environment, is divided into anhydrous ethanol, for mixing in gasoline, and hydrated, for direct use in engines with flex technology or exclusively powered by ethanol.

There is also the production of organic ethanol, a high value-added product used in the pharmaceutical, alcoolquímica, beverage, cosmetic and food industries.

Energy Generation

The Company generates its own energy. Starting from the bagasse as a source of thermal, mechanical and electrical energy, the industry started, in 1995, a pioneering project in the State of Goiás of cogeneration.

Added together, the three units have an installed capacity of 142 MW, enough to supply a city of approximately 300 thousand inhabitants.

With the replacement of fossil energy by clean energy, generated with biomass, the Company also sells carbon credits, resulting from the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Jalles is a shareholder of Albioma Participações do Brasil in the two cogeneration plants, Albioma Esplanada and Albioma Codora, with 40% and 35% participation in each of the companies, respectively. Jalles Bionergia is fully controlled by Jalles, with 100% of the company.

Sanitizers

The line of sanitizers was designed to add value to the ethanol produced by Jalles. They are divided into domestic cleaning products and professional use, ranging from liquid alcohol and gel, to hospital disinfectants.

Yeast

With the intention of reusing the excess raw material of alcoholic fermentation, Jalles started, in May 2009, the production of Dry Yeast. The installation was designed to produce common dry yeast and autolisated products, structured according to the highest quality standards requested by the most demanding markets. It has an installed capacity for the production of 22 tons/day.

Due to its high protein content, high concentration of B vitamins and excellent amino acid balance, the dry yeast is marketed as a nutritional supplement in the formulation of animal feed.

Our properties

Two units of Jalles are located in the municipality of Goianésia, in Goiás. The third unit is located in the municipality of Santa Vitória, in Minas Gerais. The regions have vast water and agricultural land availability that allow a high level of mechanization. In Goiás, Jalles has state government incentives, through programs such as Fomentar e Produzir, which encourage investment in the constant improvement of productivity.

Due to the lower competition for land when compared to other states producers, the regions of the Center-West and Triângulo Mineiro allow Jalles to acquire or partner with land at a reasonably more attractive price than other players installed in the Southeast of the Country.

Strategies and Competitive Advantages

The three industrial units, Jalles Machado, Otávio Lage and Santa Vitória have a total capacity for processing 9 million tons/harvest, with 100% own cane, 100% mechanized planting and harvesting.

Located in the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais, the plants have various fiscal benefits and lower land competition than other locations in the country.

In the domestic market, Jalles focuses its sales in the North and Northeast regions, where its sugar, sold with the Itajá brand, has a notable recognition. The production of organic sugar is marketed in major national chains, but is primarily destined for the external market. More than 20 countries receive the Itajá Organic Sugar, with the most important locations being the United States and the European continent.

Both white and organic sugar have a significant price differential when compared to VHP sugar. Currently, Jalles is the second largest producer of organic sugar in the world and the largest exporter to the North American market.

In energy cogeneration, the Company has long-term contracts, corrected by the IGPM or IPCA, providing a highly stable and predictable cash flow. The balance is sold on the spot market, which has shown attractive prices in recent periods.

Jalles is a reference in the field of agriculture. Precision agriculture, with the use of GPS and automatic pilot in part of the fleet, the application of inputs at variable rates, which allows the application of agricultural inputs in the quantities required in each area, the long-term partnerships formed with research institutes such as CTC, IAC and Ridesa, among others, assisted in the creation of specific cane varieties for the climate of the region, and the low average radius, allow the Company to increase the longevity of the cane field, achieve high agricultural productivity and still reduce costs with CCT.
